Welcome

Hi friends,

I am Sreekanth, musician(Indian). As a young musician I couldn't find more web resources about Home recording and necessary equipments. My aim is to provide details about new hardwares in the field of home recording and usefull links. More over I like to share some tutorials of Indian Classical(Carnatic) music. This will be a knowledge center for anyone interested in recording and mixing their own music CDs and MP3s in their own home recording studio. You might want to do it yourself to save money, have more artistic control, or to learn the music business. If any of this sounds like your dream...like I said, this is the place!

What you need to start a Home Recording Studio!

No doubt, pick a PC or Mac with minimum 80GB HD(hard Disk)otherwise go for a multitrack HD recorder, beware cheap multitrack HDs have limited number of tracks and you have to comprimise with quality, while computers serve unlimited number of tracks(depends installed music softs). Next the main tool is 'sound card' where the convertion of analog signal to digital happens. As a beginner go for M-Audio Audiophile 2496 sound card ($90). Keep in you mind that all common sound cards also can record sound, only difference on quality. Pick an affordable microphone to record vocals or instruments. Some USB based mics(Samson C01U USB Studio Condenser Mic ) also can be tried . Better way to record high quality sound select an usb mixer like Alesis multimix,Behringer,Mackie etc. there you can plug your keyboard/guitar/mic and record via USB port. So you have every thing in solid. The another part lies on softwares. If you want to sequense your music in computer go for Fl Studio, Cakewalk Sonar, Reason, Acid Pro etc. or want to record audio and mix select Sound Forge, Adobe Audition, Sonar etc. These softs serve better quality sounds and effects and easy to use. Pick a CD Mastering software like Wavelab to master your audio file and burn it on CDs.
